MetrôRio 2052

Part urban planning passion project, part graphic design experiment — in this project, I reimagined Rio de Janeiro's metro network far into the future, taking the city's demands into account.

I did a full overhaul of the MetrôRio brand, giving its visual identity a more sleek, appealing and cohesive style.

Argument:

“Metro Rio 2052” — personal project

One of the historical problems of the city of Rio de Janeiro is its tendency to act in reaction to urban changes, never in anticipation to them. What should have been done decades ago — building a metro system worthy of a city of 8 million inhabitants —, was never accomplished. Today, people are limited to the precarious bus-centered model, suffering from traffic jams and overcrowding.

I envisioned this design project as a form of provocation: its intent is to instigate public discussion about our city's economic, social, infrastructural and aesthetical needs. Such a wild concept, when visually materialized through design, can allow us to imagine what's possible beyond the precariousness we've sadly come to normalize.
